Customer Reviews

Great CoffeeTanzanian Peaberry is one of my all time favorites. I lived for many years under mount Kilimanjaro and visited coffee plantations on the slopes there many years ago. This is a great flavored coffee without being at all bitter....received with a day of ordering and cannot complain, this is my third order of this particular brand. Recommended.5Great taste and great shipping!I ordered this coffee when I was looking for a more economical replacement for the company I previously ordered Tanzanian Peaberry from. I have pretty high standards for my coffee, so I was hesitant to switch, but I'm glad I did. The coffee is smooth, has great flavor (not burnt), and seems very fresh. I specifically ordered direct from the company rather than doing "fulfillment by Amazon" because I wanted to be sure that the beans would be fresh, and each time I have ordered (I've ordered twice), the date on the package showed that they must have been recently roasted (I'm assuming here that the expiration date is 1 year from the roasting date.) Each time I ordered, the coffee was shipped out almost immediately so I received it well before the expected arrival date-- a pleasant surprise as I live across the country from the company that makes it. Overall very satisfied and highly recommend!5Sour, awfulI buy coffee regularly from this company, and it is almost always great coffee for a good price, but this most recent batch of teaberry was pretty awful. Sour, acidic, and an over all pretty bad flavor. I am very much looking forward to finishing my unfortunate 5 pound bag and buying something else.1and FRC does a fine job of sourcing and roastingTanzanian Peaberry is one of my favorites, and FRC does a fine job of sourcing and roasting. In general, I have been very pleased with FRC coffee. At this point, I have gone through about 50 pounds of their coffee, various single source beans, and the only times I've been less than impressed were not because of badly roasted or inferior beans, but the character of the beans simply weren't to my taste. Most of the time it was only a matter of adjusting the quantity of beans, grind size, and/or brewing method. But I enjoy the process and experimentation (when I have time); they're part of the experience for me. I can't express in proper coffee review language what exactly I'm tasting, but the cupping notes on the FRC bags have been pretty accurate, by my experience. Fresh Roasted Coffee offers high quality beans at a reasonable price, and I look forward to enjoying the next 50 pounds of FRC coffee.5stale coffeeThis product was received and was found to be stale and bitter in taste. I attempted to notify the vendor concerning this problem and they were unwilling to replace my item with a product that was of the freshness that I have grown accustomed to expect from Fresh Roasted Coffee LLC. Although I have always found their products to be very high quality this incident has me reconsidering whether I will continue to purchase from them. Very poor customer service related to my order of this variety of their whole bean coffee1This has steadily and surely become a favorite. UPDATE Fell Completely Flat - Recommend Purchasing Fresh DirectlyUpdates Below...Original Review: This has steadily and surely become a favorite. I tried it more than 2 years ago and it was most certainly *not* my favorite - it has an incredibly distintictive taste to it unlike most any other available. Incredibly smooth, but full body, medium roast with notes that shift around all over the place. I've grown to love it so much because it absolutely one of the most interesting coffees I've ever had. I would give it 5 stars if it were Fair or Direct Trade - that is my only reservation with these amazing beans. Easily in my top three.Update 5/10/2017:Still great. We've ordered this many times over the past couple years. Consistently good from Fresh Roasted CC. Some very odd "critical" reviews here on Amazon as usual. Peaberry is a very distinct type of bean that will certainly not appeal to everyone... that's fine, more for us.UPDATE 10/17/2017:Well, I finally received a bag that was as many reviewers here have reported: completely flat, flavorless and stale. Each bag we've received when ordering via Amazon in the past (and *especially* the many times we've ordered directly from FRC to try limited edition runs) has been roasted within a couple weeks at most of receipt, oftentimes only about a week. I thought I was crazy for the three brews we made with our most recent shipment, a 2lbs. bag ordered on Oct 14th and opened just 2 days ago - until I checked the roast date (the Julian Calendar numbered sticker at the bottom of each bag) and it read 214, which translates to August 2nd... or two and a half months ago.I don't understand -I have had a couple email conversations with FRC in the past and they seemed to pride themselves on roasting just before shipping. I guess that isn't the case any longer. This was one of my favorite roasts, but seeing as I cannot return this bag, not sure I'll order again. Huge disappointment.UPDATE 10/17/2017:FRC made this right. We'll purchase directly from them moving forward.3Best CoffeeI have tried a lot of different coffees from all over the world and this is the best. I grind the beans fresh, then use a French press coffee pot and spring water. The peaberry beans are smaller than most coffee beans but have more flavor. I can't believe Starbucks doesn't use this coffee, they seem to want a darker stronger roast. This is a mild light roast coffee. Grown on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro in volcanic soil, this is very near to were coffee originally came from.5Tanzanian Peaberry...not so muchJust opened my new order of 5 lbs. Tanzanian Peaberry coffee beans this evening and discovered that there are a lot of non-peaberry beans in the bag. I'm not saying just a few, I mean a LOT.I don't see anywhere in the description of the product that this is a blend of peaberry and regular beans, so I now wonder if I have been getting the same blended product over the 20-25 lbs. of this coffee I have repeatedly ordered since last year.I also now wonder if the 40 or so lbs. of Monsooned Malabar I have ordered from the same company is the actual advertised product.I will have to try and find a product that is exactly as advertised instead of having something different sneaked into the bag.2Please Don't Buy AnyPeople have called me a coffee snob as I've even traveled to several Central American countries to pick out my own beans.I was dubious when I saw Tanzanian Peaberry for sale on Amazon. I suspected it might be a bait-and-switch or inferior product. Nonetheless,I have fond memories from when I drank some over a decade ago, so decided to take a risk. Many people like their coffee strong, but I've always liked mine smooth. With each sip I found myself doing a double take, looking at the cup and wondering, "How is it possible that this is smoothest coffee I've ever had?" Perfectly roasted, there is not the slightest hint of bitterness, which I detest.I'm hesitant to tell you this just may have become my all time favorite. I'm afraid if the demand increases so will the price. So please don't buy any. Leave it all for me.However, I have to admit that this coffee might have just become my all time favorite.5This coffee is different, so experiment with your brewing methodI figured out how to make great coffee from these beans, but it's not the perfect coffee. I was initially disappointed when it replaced my previous beans. Since then I learned the following: 1. It won't taste good if you make it too strong. The flavor is very delicate and becomes unpleasant when it oversaturates the water. 2. You might need to reduce your brewing temperature. I was used to 95C, but that was way too much for this coffee. Now I'm somewhere closer to 80C. 3. You need to experiment with your grind. I actually grind these finer than the coffee I used before. The result is delicious, even if it's not exactly what I wanted out of my coffee - more sour and less bitter. I will finish my 5lb lovingly, but then move on to experiment with other FRC coffees.4
