extra sturdy pole make it useful for other things.Great sturdy dressing stick that I've taken to use for other things. Because it is so sturdy with a thick strong wooden pole, it works great for putting a hanging flower basket up on a high hook as well as hanging things on a high rod in the closet or helping make a bed that is up against a wall. As a dressing stick it works fine as well. I like it better than the previous one I bought because the hooks at both ends are plastic coated so don't snag anything. 5This is helpful in sooo many waysThis is helpful in sooo many ways! I had back fusion surgery from sacral to cervical spine and this tool helps in every aspect of getting dressed. It is also helpful in some areas of getting undressed. They taught me how to use this in inpatient rehab, so I ordered one abd had it waiting for me when I got home. Excellent tool! 5Not useful if you have arthritisThis simple little stick looked like it would be useful. Unfortunately it is difficult to maneuver if you have arthritis in your hands and shoulders. It might have worked better if it had a slightly bent handle to be able to reach around to your back for helping with a bra. Also the hook end was not really "hooked" it was just a 90 degree bend so whatever you're trying to grasp just slips off. I like the concept and will keep shopping for something a little more suitable. 3Get the right length for the userI got this for someone I work for as a caregiver. He has two of them in differing lengths, depending on how bendy he feels from day to day. It is very hand for putting on his socks, and it's smooth and slides them on easily. It takes some practice. If you have a fairly flexible back, get the shorter one, otherwise get the longer one so you don't have to bend over so much to maneuver it. It's easy to hang anywhere by the hook part, and easy to find when dressing. It can be used to pull your shirt from your pants when undressing, and to hook a button to pull a dress shirt closed. It also comes in handy as a back ssratcher! No elderly patient should be without one of these handy sticks. I rated it down just a little because the plastic part breaks under too much pressure. But don't we all? 5CHEAP CONSTRUCTION!I just had my second spine surgery. Before my first spine surgery, the hospital where I had the operation required a mandatory training class on day to day living techniques following spine surgery, during this class, we were given the option to purchase a "kit" that contained, among other items, a dressing stick similar to this one. I put that first stick through more than a year of hard use. It worked extremely well and I had no problems at all until recently when the plastic coating began to wear off and the tip began to bend when I used it. Which brings me to the Ableware Dressing Stick. The FIRST TIME I used it, the tip bent all the way over against the handle just removing a PAIR OF SOCKS!! This product, I am very sorry to say, is completely worthless. I hope that others that have purchased this product have had better luck with it. Because based on my experience, I would have to recommend that anyone in need of this type of tool would refrain from purchasing this brand and look elsewhere.\\\\\\ 1Useful item. This is a replacement for another that I had had for 8 months. Using this to push off compression socks caused that one to bend at the wire entry to the stick - and eventually break off. One view is that for $10 the life for something used every day was not a problem - cost of a couple cups of overpriced coffee. However, I decided to help it last longer by screwing the helper end down farther into to end of the stick until the lowest hook contacted the stick end - expect it to bend less & so last longer.Useful item. 5Buy the other oneI have bought two of these from different suppliers. This one was much inferior with the large hook off center and soft metal. The small hook is also much smaller than the alternate supplier (RMS) version. 2hey good, value price, dressing Aid.This was a replacement for one of these I've been using for years and has a good value compared to others I have found available. It certainly helps when your Mobility is limited. The only negative I find is that the larger end will bend sometimes if subjected to considerable stress. That's true of all I've encountered though. You won't regret buying this if you need one. 4Excellent tool to help you dress and undressI bought this stick in advance of my hip replacement surgery and it has been incredibly useful for dressing and undressing, particularly with pants. I've read that some people were unhappy that this tool isn't helpful for putting on surgical stockings but honestly they are so difficult to put on I wouldn't even try to use this tool for that task. I have removed surgical stockings with it though. It has also been useful to push and pull items that I need. It doesn't function as a grabber but works well for picking up towels, socks, shoes and other items off the floor so that you comply with the mandatory hip precautions after surgery. 5Simple Dressing StickI ordered one of these for myself to help me with dressing after back surgery. It is an excellent tool very helpful for someone who cannot bend over. It is much easier to manipulate for dressing and assisting than a "gripper" tool, that you have to squeeze to grasp objects (that tool is very helpful for other tasks.) It was so helpful that I ordered a second one for my friend who also had back surgery. When she got hers, she was very happy with this tool. At first glance, the odd shape of the hooks doesn't make sense but after getting it, and practicing, the design is clear. One hook for pulling, the other for pushing and then a simple closed hook for "snagging" things. My occupational therapist (OT) says that this tool is one of the better designed dressing sticks that she had seen. It is NOT designed for moving heavy things around, but it is not fragile. 5
