After a few failed inserts, these were perfect for my vintage Frye boots (heeled)! My favorite shoes are a pair of vintage Frye boots (from 1980 to be exact!). However, they are not always the most comfortable for long wearing periods. The sole, being leather, is a bit on the hard side and provides no cushioning or support. I have tried a few inserts through the years and was generally unimpressed. These though, dang! When I put my foot in my boot with these I could tell that this was something special. I need a little metatarsel support in the form of a bit of lifted arch support on the inner side of my food. I have custom inserts but they never quite work with these boots. These work in the way that I wish my $200 custom orthotics did with these boots. The boots in question have a 1 3/4 inch heel. While my orthotics work sublimely in flat shoes but just not in my coveted Frye boots. This worked with my heeled Frye boots and I could not be any more pleased with them. 5Better options existAn ex-football player past his prime (6'3", 360 lbs, size 13D, medium arch), I was recently diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. My orthopedist recommended daily stretching exercises and Orthoheel slippers to wear indoors (no more walking around in socks). What a difference! The slippers and exercises lessened my symptoms from the start and, over time, eliminated most of my discomfort, so I decided to find some orthotic inserts to improve my street shoes. So far, I've tested:1. Dr. Scholl's Massaging Gel Extra Support2. Aetrex Copper Medium Arch3. Spenco Polysorb Total Support4. Superfeet Copper DMP5. Powerstep Pinnacle6. Powerstep Pinnacle Proeach for two hours' total walking time over a few days in two pairs of my favorite shoes: New Balance 606 hikers and Cole Haan loafers with Nike Air.Dr. Scholl's Massaging Gel Extra Support: Advertised for big & tall men, they didn't do much for me. While the extra cushioning helped at first, it helped less and less the longer I walked on them. I mentioned this to my orthopod and he told me the key to managing PF is not cushioning, it's support. Grade: DSpenco Polysorb Total Support: Remembering my doc's advice, I chose these for the rigid heel cup and arch support. Though quite comfortable overall, the arch support was a bit too low for my medium-high arches and the heel cup was insufficient support for weight. While they worked reasonably well for me, I believe they would a be better choice for lighter individuals with lower arches. Grade: BAetrex Copper Medium Arch: Promising better arch support, these felt very similar to the Spenco insoles even after walking around the block. I then swapped one of the Aetrex insoles for one of the Spenco insoles and walked around again. Only then could I tell them apart. The Spenco offered a little better support for the mid- and fore-parts of my foot, the Aetrex offered a little better support for my arch. Grade: BSuperfeet: I was in an Allen Edmonds store and noticed the Superfeet insoles. The clerk said many men my size have good success with them. I tried the Orange and the Copper DMP versions in the store. Finding the Orange too high for my arches, I got a pair of the Copper DMP. These are easily the most rigid of the insoles I've tried...and easily the best. Superfeet arch support sits farther back on the insole than other brands. This made a real difference in the support and comfort I felt walking long distances. I also found the medial post support in the heel did a better job than other insoles in combatting over-pronation. Grade: A [Update: I have since tried Superfeet Black in dress shoes that couldn't accommodate the Orange insole. They work well but are not as supportive as the Copper.]Powerstep Pinnacle: While it seems well-made and offered good support, it simply did not work for me. The gel-based arch support sits too far forward and in the middle of the insole. The insoles felt like I had lumps of clay underfoot. After a few blocks of brisk walking, my feet began to fatigue as if I were walking barefoot in sand. Again, these may work for some people but they didn't for me. Grade: CPowerstep Pinnacle Pro: Other wearers commented that the Pinnacle Pro differs markedly from the Pinnacle, so I tried a pair. I barely made it a block before heading back home. Though more rigid than the Pinnacle and with a better heel cup, the Pinnacle Pro was too inflexible through the arch and ball of my foot. These were the only insoles I tried that truly caused me pain. Of course, it could just be the contours of my feet, and for others the Pinnacle Pro might be great. Grade: F 3Trash after 2 days. Customer service refused to help.I will start by saying that I have been using powerstep pinnacle for awhile now and they are great for Planar fasciitis. However recently I have had problems with 2 pairs of them. The heel cup migrated forward in the insole. This made them very uncomfortable and worthless. I contacted powerstep to report the problem and was totally blown off. They told me that the company who sold them through Amazon was not an authorized reseller and refused to honor their guarantee. I wore them for 2 days and they are trash. Very unhappy with their customer service. I thought they might actually stand by their products, but I can see that they don't. They have lost a long time customer who works in surgery and has recommended them to many people who have foot issues. Well now that will change. As you can see in the photos the heel cup is out of place. 1"Quiet those barking dogs"Oh, I could sing the praises of powerstep, but all I have to say is this: my 4-year suffering from plantar fasciitis has come to an end due to the religious use of these great insoles in all my shoes - including slippers. If there was a way to wear them in the shower, I would. I never and I mean NEVER walk barefoot anywhere, not even to make coffee in the morning. Wal-Mart sells some nice. cheap shoes called ANDI I use for kicking around the house or yard, and I have put powersteps in all my shoes. I hope you will try these if you suffer like I did, you know what an awful thing it is to have barking dogs. I'm back to walking 3-4 miles every day, thank Jah! 5Not what they used to beI have had several pairs of these in the past, first purchased from my podiatrist and then on here. I switched when they were unavailable once and switched back when my new (now preferred) insoles have become "unavailable at this time". BIG MISTAKE! I thought at first I just needed to get used to them a few days. Second week I went with my old ones again even though they are worn down and tried these again third week of owning them. My heel got to hurting so bad I could hardly walk. I limped through my work day Friday. Over the weekend the pain went away and I tried just some jell insoles Monday as I had foolishly thrown out the old ones. Unfortunately no arch support was no good. Not the pain of Friday but uncomfortable so I tried the supports again yesterday and the pain is returning. Too late to return now so that's $34 down the toilet. Lesson learned!UPDATE: I bought a new pair of shoes and when my heel was almost 100% without pain I tried these again (trying to give the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe it was actually worn out shoes) and day 1 I was fine. Day 2 and the heel pain was back. So I gave these more than the old school try folks, they simply are not the quality they once were. 1Best I've Ever Used. These have worked well for my plantar fasciitis. It's not cured, but has helped. I wish they had a higher arch, but they are doing what they are intended to do. Some others have complained about the durability. I've had them for about 5 months, and they are just fine. I would expect they will easily last past 1 year of ownership (and I wear them every single day).Minus 1 star because I wish the arch was a little higher, but that's personal preference.*Update*I have now used these insoles for about 1.5 years. When I buy a pair of shoes, I throw away the insoles and use only these; so I have literally worn them every day for 1.5 years, and they are still going strong. I assume I'll have to purchase a new set in 6 months or so as I am seeing some signs of wear. Overall, I am very happy with these. Of note, my plantar fasciitis is gone. what a wonderful thing that is too because it made it difficult to walk for several months. 5Bad Quality, Read Recent Reviews First. Mine Lasted 16 days. NON-RETURNABLEBelieve other reviews!Prior to these, I have worn Powerstep orthotics, as recommended by my podiatrist, no problem. These broke down in 16 days. cup for the heel is now protruding and making me sore. While other reviewers might not have needed/understood this device, this is NOT the 'year or so' I expect from Powerstep products. There is NO REASON the cushion material should have broken down in days. 1but like it says on boxI have extremely flat feet and often times at work I have to stand for hours on end. Because of this, I have very sore feet and have dealt with plantar fasciitis. I bought a set of these and a second set of the Maxx Full length to try out. I started with Powerstep, and after getting used to them over a few days of wear, I beginning to feel relief from the pain. I'll admit, the first day I was having second thoughts, because the arch supports were hurting a little, but like it says on box, you need to get your feet accustomed to them. I'll probably return the Maxx Step wihtout even trying them, because I think the powerstep is all I need. 5Should have gotten these months ago.I've had these for less than 24 hours, so I'll post an update if anything changes, but...oh em gee. I feel like no one will believe this is a legitimate review, because I'm about to tell you that the INSTANT I put these on, I began to feel better. Before my foot even hit the floor or I stood up or tried to walk, my foot and ankle felt better. I wore them for about an hour last night, and put them on again as soon as I was out of bed this morning. I can still feel a bit of a twinge, but the limp I've been fighting for several weeks is gone, and the pain reduced by 90%. My issues: overpronation, plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis, gastrocnemius tendinopathy, hip instability - basically the connective tissue in my whole left leg is tight and inflamed and making things painful while restricting movement...and my right heel is starting to twinge in solidarity. Fun times. The size Women's 9-9.5 fit into my Sketchers size 9 perfectly, with no extra room for sliding or pinching toes, and no bunching of the insole. I tried them with and without removing the shoes' original insole, and I think I prefer it with the shoes' insole, but more walking around in them today will decide that.I'm really hoping these hold up. I'll be back to let you know if they don't. 5Life changing for my pronaterMy husband has multiple bulging discs in his back. We spent about 5 years never leaving the house because he couldn t walk or stand for longer than about 30 min. We went to a specialty shoe store and had his walk assessed. Enter pinnacle orthotics. Within about 1-2 weeks he could walk or stand for over an hour and it just got better and better... 5 years later and we live like normal people. My husband replaces these about 2-3 times a year because he cannot live without them. They are moved between every pair of shoes he wears. They may wear down a little more quickly on him because he s a pretty big guy (about 240 lbs). He pronates severely (ie., his ankles roll in when he walks), and that is the reason these were recommended. I realize that specialty products are not for everyone but the pronation is why these were recommended for him. I tried a similar pinnacle insole but I don t have an uneven walk, and I sma fairly small person and they were very uncomfortable for me. Not sure if the great fit for my husband is because he pronates and he s a large man. Keep in mind there will be a little bit of time while your posture adjusts to these so you may experience some mild discomfort for the first week or so. Also, you may want to order 1/2 size down if you border sizes. He s a 14 and the 14-15 ones are uncomfortable and he has trouble with them fitting his shoes so he uses the 12-13 size. 5
