... trip to India because wipes travel a little more easily than sprayI recently purchased these for a trip to India because wipes travel a little more easily than spray. While I cannot say with any certainty that these may protect you from Malaria, I can say that I did not get any mosquito bites after using these. They were simple to use, the smell was hardly noticeable, and they were effective. I would buy these again. 4I am amazed which rarely happens. The stuff works. I have to perform work in the everglades once a month and after accidentally forgetting any insect repellent the first time, I was literally eaten alive. They bit me everywhere and when i finally got back in the car i had blood all over where I had slapped my arms and legs. the next time I went back armed with this and they left me alone. I rubbed two sheets all over my arms and legs and then left a sheet turked in my pants pocket and shirt pocket and they left me alone. I'm convinced! At first I thought I'd need the 100% deet but as you can see you don't. I wanted to avoid putting that much chemical on my skin and thought I'd try the 30% first. It works! 5Works very well! (compare to Ultrathon)For a two-week trip around Costa Rica this August, I thoroughly researched the best insect repellents, especially as I am highly allergic to mosquitoes (I get massive welts that itch--and are often hot to the touch--for days). I also worried about the no-seeums and sand flies. We planned to trek through multiple rainforests and spend some time in the hot, humid Caribbean, so I wanted to be well covered! Originally, I thought I needed a 100% DEET product, but after much research, I learned that it was not necessary to have such a high concentration (which could also cause adverse reactions). I decided to go for products in the 30-40% DEET range, and ended up buying three different ones: the Repel Sportsmen MAX pump spray, the Repel wipes, and the Ultrathon cream.I am writing this review to say that ALL of them worked well, BUT I HATED using Ultrathon. Like some reviews said, it is very sticky (does not absorb into skin). Therefore, everything sticks TO you! Dirt, sand, bugs...you name it. AND once stuck, it is almost impossible to get things like sand and dirt off without a heavy-duty scrubbing (brushing only smears everything). When you are already in a hot, humid climate, bug repellent makes you feel dirty as it is; Ultrathon, however, made me feel the ickiest. The Repel pump spray and wipes never had the sticky problem, worked very well, and did not smell offensive (except a little when you first apply them--outdoors, of course). Therefore, I'd recommend them instead.I'd actually recommend getting BOTH Repel products. The wipes are good for carrying in a pocket and using quickly. Even though they are not individually-wrapped, I could still stuff the pack into a back pocket. It also resealed well, so I didn't worry about losing any potency. The two of us went through 1 pack of the wipes (I had brought two) during our two weeks in Costa Rica. Of course, we had also pre-treated most of our clothes with Sawyer permethrin spray and used about 3/4 of the Repel Sportmen MAX spray (again, between the two of use over two weeks). The wipes are especially good for small areas like your neck. I also tucked them in the bottom of my hiking pants (which cinched) to ward off sand flies while looking at turtles nesting on the beach at midnight. I even used them to wipe down for a little extra protection when in some of the more "rustic" accommodations at night.I wouldn't just want to have the wipes, though. The Sportsmen MAX spray was good for a more hands-free application (with Ultrathon and the Repel wipes, you have to wash your hands THOROUGHLY for several minutes after using them--especially with Ultrathon). The Repel spray was also good to spray on clothes (for things I either hadn't pre-treated with the Sawyer permethrin spray or things that were water-proof so that the permethrin wouldn't sink in). I think it was also easier to cover larger areas of skin. One precaution (that I probably should've realized--duh): wait until your pores close after taking a shower or bath before applying either of these products. I made the mistake of using the Repel wipes very soon after showering, and my skin was on FIRE! I also broke out in a huge red rash. I immediately jumped in the shower again, and everything cleared up shortly thereafter. I reapplied the repellent after waiting 30 minutes, and I was fine.Over two weeks, I hardly got any bites at all, even when SWARMED by mosquitoes for hours on end (e.g., five hours in the Manzanilla forest, half the time off the trails with a guide)! Most of the bites I got actually occurred *indoors* in bathrooms (when I wasn't wearing anything). I only got, maybe, 3 or 4 outdoors (two of them on my butt through untreated hiking pants--that's when I started spraying a little Repel on my clothes, too!). 5It works! My new favorite repellentI would highly recommend the Repel wipes! Quick and easy to use, one wipe covered most of my body and really did work to repel all bugs from me for almost a whole day. As a pre-caution I always re-applied at night time but never had any bites!I am always the first to get bitten in any situation and knew on my upcoming trip I'd be hiking so I ordered these and because I wasn't sure they'd work, some Ultrathon. I didn't break out the Ultrathon once! Now let me just say that Ultrathon is by far the best repellent, but it is horrible to apply; slow and tacky feeling. These wipes were literally the opposite. The easily resealed pouch meant anytime I stepped outside I could quickly wipe down my body and get moving. The scent is strong but nothing more horrible than other repellents. What an innovation! 5The smell alone strikes fear into the hearts of mosquitos and ticksEasily carried for camping and highly effective. Have you ever packed some camping gear for a trip only to realize something shifted and pressed the button on your aerosol cans and half emptied them all over your stuff?Once you do that one good time with sunscreen or bug spray you start thinking about alternatives since those caps don't always stay on the can. Turns out, this wipe alternative is more user friendly than the spray. For one, it's very easily applied. No need to worry about overspray near someone's eyes or worse, the food on the grill. Want to apply bug repellent inside a vehicle before you step outside into the unknown? Yeah, these are perfect for that.Secondly, these pack SO easily. I had several packs for me and 5 other guys on a riverside camping trip recently. They hardly take up any room and stack together nicely, but we only used maybe 1.5 packs! Fine by me, I've started using this stuff full-time and not just for camping. Finally, I can't forget to mention the lack of sticky residue that other products sometimes leave you with. You know, sometimes you spray yourself down and you suddenly feel like you haven't showered in 37 days? Then all kinds of dirt sticks to you like a magnet. God forbid somebody has any glitter. But not this stuff, you'll quickly forget you have it on. I rated the scent 5/5 because although it DOES have a stink, it smells way worse to biting insects. I actually like the smell knowing that bugs DO NOT. So far, after using Repel Wipes for a little over 2 years I haven't had one mosquito or tick bite while covered. So whether I'm mountain biking or hiking through the woods, camping or canoeing, or just sitting in my own mosquito infested backyard trying to grill some food without getting eaten alive; I can depend on this stuff. Take it from me, I'm delicious. Please don't make any changes unless that is to make a larger capacity package. 5> A SINGLE POUCH CONTAINING 15 WIPES> The description is a little confusing. I thought that I was getting 15 individually wrapped wipes. Actually, it's 15 wipes in a single pouch. For families or groups, this is probably the most ideal packaging. For an individual, individually-wrapped wipes might be better.> Contains 30% Deet, which is the maximum recommended directly on the skin.> Deet wipes, lotion, etc., on exposed skin should be your SECOND line of defense. The first line should be clothing treated with Permethrin. Permethrin spray (such as Sawyer Products Premium Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent) repels mosquitos and prevents them from biting through your clothes. The only "catch" is that you need to thoroughly spray your clothes and let them dry in advance (I.e, not while wearing them). A treatment with Permethrin lasts for 5 or 6 washings. The ideal strategy is simply to have an appropriate set of clothing that you use only when expecting to encounter mosquitos or other biting insects.AFTER ACTION REPORT> I used the wipes on the back of my hands, wrists, face, neck, and ears on several occasions while on a tour of the Amazon River. Used this way, a wipe was sufficient for one person. Bare arms and legs would require additional wipes. However, I saw few mosquitoes, and most other individuals on the tour were not wearing repellent. More importantly, I experienced no burning or other discomfort from using the repellant -- probably because I applied it well in advance when I was not sweaty. Didn't make me stink either. The repellant was essentially unnoticeable -- which is ideal. The envelopes resealed securely. My experience may have not been a challenging test, but I was pleased with the results.. 4Great, very handy, don't smell much, keeps insects off.I love this stuff and have bought several packages of it. We live in Arkansas, and the mosquitoes here are bad in the summer. Biting insects just love me! I don't like using the regular sprays like Off because of the smell, and nothing else has worked, so I bought these. They work great and don't smell too bad. You don't really notice it if you're outside. You want to make sure to shower or wipe yourself off afterwards because then you might notice the smell. Very hand to be able to just wipe my arms, legs, and neck with these rather than having to spray, which is not good for inhaling. I can't recommend these enough. 5No mess! No fuss! Not a Liquid! Airline Friendly! There were so easy to take along on hiking treks in wooded areas where biting insects are a problem. One sheet covered arms, legs, face and neck. Then I tucked the used wipe into the waist band of my jeans for added protection. Literally no bites on day or night hikes. Love them. 5great stuff when the mosquitoes are ravenousI usually only use deet-free products on my body. Admittedly, that only works on a limited level. But recently I went photographing in an area that was teaming with mosquitoes - oh my - they were absolutely ravenous and the most determined mosquitoes I had ever run across! Some bit through my clothes just to avoid the natural repellent I was using, but most of them weren't deterred at the least with my 'natural repellent' -- I felt like a pincushion and was being eaten alive. :-) But I wanted to go back a few weeks later so I brought this product. It was too hot to wear long sleeves so I applied it liberally on almost all bare skin. After several hours photographing I was bitten only a couple of times - and that was on my back through the shirt - not one bite on my exposed skin! I was sold so I just bought some more to be prepared for future similar conditions. 5A must to deter disease-carrying mosquitoesWhile DEET isn't a friendly chemical (it will peel your nail polish and possibly discolor your clothes), there is no better repellent to use when you are traveling in a country where malaria-, zika-, and dengue - harboring mosquitoes are buzzing about night and day. All 6 members of our party used DEET (cream, spray, and wipes) in Thailand for a week and although we smelled a little like petroleum, there wasn't a single mosquito that had a blood feast on us. The wipes are nice to carry in a daypack. 5
